FAQ:
  • who is the owner of the license?
  • License is sold and headed to the dealer who has the right to sell it to the customer. If the end customer contacts us directly we refers him to the dialer.
  • if I change computer/servers I have to buy a new license?
  • No, but in this case it is necessary to require re-activation for the new hardware.
  • Who can I contact for technical support?
  • You can write to support@undesktop.com or contact us at 0039 05831748991.
  • If I have a specific technical problem installing or running the software?
  • For problems that require a Thinstuff developer there is an advanced technical support with fee.
  • What kind of machine (power, features) I need to make a desktop server for X users?
  • The choice of server hardware is very conditioned by the applications that people use, for office applications (office, email, web browsing) it is recommended the following valuation: consider the minimum performance of a PC for one user, for 5 users should be 2.5 times at least, for 10 users 5 times at least.
This means, for example, that if one user works well with a Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz and 512MB of RAM, to let 5 users work, you will consider the power of this machine multiplied by 2.5, like a Pentium Dual Core with 1.5 GB of RAM.

Contrary to what you might imagine, the use of a computer by 5 users is not equivalent to its use by 1 user because the operating system uses techniques of memory management sharing that make an application started 5 times occupies the memory of a single start, plus differences related to individual sessions. That means that hardware is fully exploited and it's possible to use ordinary machines for running more desktop at the same time.
  • I already have a latest PC, can I use it as centralized desktop server?
  • Absolutely! It's the most economical and easy way to do it: you just buy ThinStuff software and install it, the machine is ready for usage by multiple users simultaneously.
  • How to activate license?
  • To activate license follow steps inGuide to activation of Thistuff license
  • I saw that I can buy the product from www.thinstuff.com, what is the difference for buying it from UnDesktop or through its resellers?
  • UnDesktop is the official distributor of ThinStuff software for Italy: buying from us you will get technical support via telephone and email in Italian language, warranty and valid invoice for tax purposes. To get local support and a person to contact directly we recommend an authorized dealer UnDesktop.
  • is it legal to use XP/VS Server for sharing computer desktop, running for example Windows XP Professional, with multiple users?
  • As expressed by ThinStuff s.r.o. the use of XP/VS Server software is perfectly legal and does not break any law. See more details in EULA (End User License Agreement):

We believe that XP/VS Server falls under paragraph 1.4 "Remote Desktop/Remote Assistance/NetMeeting as "other software which provides similar functionality for a similar purpose."

    1.4 Remote Desktop/Remote Assistance/NetMeeting
The Software contains Remote Desktop, Remote Assistance, and NetMeeting technologies that enable the Software or applications installed on the Workstation Computer (sometimes referred to as a host device) to be accessed remotely from other Devices. You may use the Software's Remote Desktop feature (or other software which provides similar functionality for a similar purpose) to access a Workstation Computer Session from any Device provided you acquire a separate Software license for that Device. As an exception to this rule, the person who is the single primary user of the Workstation Computer may access a Workstation Computer Session from any Device without acquiring an additional Software license for that Device.

As they say "Software license" and not "Windows license" it sounds more like they are referring to their TS-CALs. As TSCALs are not available for XP the customer can use XP/VS Client Access licenses instead.

  • If hardware breaks up and I must replace it, can I reactivate my license?
  • The license is connected to the hardware of each machine, so a change in the system leading to the request for a new activation. We process manually all reasonable requests for reactivation and in these cases license is reactivated. (see License's activation guide).
  • What does 'Invalid Hardware key' mean?
  • This message appears on a physical PC only when the hardware has changed significantly (eg change the motherboard or the whole PC) or on a virtual machine when the MAC address of the primary Windows network adapter has changed.

You need to restore the MAC address on the virtual machines or proceed to reactivation.
  • Can I upgrade one product to another, eg from XP/VS Standard to Professional?
  • Of course. You can do it buying the new product and specifying that it is an upgrade at time of order (indicate the number of the original license).

Dal costo della nuova versione viene scalato il costo della licenza originale (al listino attuale) e €15,- di commisione.
